Eyelash Enhancement

LATISSE®

The first and only FDA-approved prescription treatment to grow eyelashes longer, fuller, and darker — no extensions, no adhesives, no daily mascara routine.

About This Treatment

FDA-approved eyelash growth

LATISSE®(bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03%) is the first and only FDA-approved prescription treatment for hypotrichosis — a condition characterized by having inadequate or not enough eyelashes. Originally discovered as a side effect of glaucoma medication, bimatoprost was found to significantly enhance eyelash growth, leading to its approval by the FDA in December 2008 specifically for cosmetic lash enhancement.

The active prescription ingredient in LATISSE works by increasing the length of time each eyelash spends in its anagen (growth) phase and by increasing the number of hairs that sprout during that phase. The result is eyelashes that are measurably longer, visibly fuller, and noticeably darker. In clinical trials, participants experienced a 25 percent increase in lash length, a 106 percent increase in lash thickness and fullness, and an 18 percent increase in lash darkness after sixteen weeks of nightly use.

Unlike eyelash extensions, strip lashes, or magnetic lashes, LATISSE grows your own natural eyelashes from the follicle. There is no adhesive involved, no risk of damage to your natural lashes, and no need for fills or replacements every few weeks. For many patients in Albuquerque, LATISSE offers a simpler, more sustainable path to the full, dramatic lashes they want — with results that are entirely their own.

At Bair Medical Spa, your clinician will evaluate your lash health and medical history to confirm that LATISSE is appropriate for you. Because it is a prescription product, a brief consultation is required before dispensing. Your clinician will also walk you through the correct application technique to ensure you achieve the best possible results safely and comfortably.

Benefits

Why choose LATISSE®

FDA-Approved

LATISSE is the only eyelash growth product backed by FDA approval and rigorous clinical trial data, giving you confidence in both safety and results.

Clinically Proven Results

Studies demonstrate a 25% increase in length, 106% increase in fullness, and 18% increase in darkness after sixteen weeks of consistent nightly use.

Your Own Natural Lashes

Unlike extensions or falsies, LATISSE grows your real lashes from the follicle. No glue, no damage, no maintenance appointments.

Simple Nightly Application

One drop on a sterile applicator, one pass along the upper lash line each evening. The entire process takes less than a minute.

No Downtime

LATISSE is applied at home as part of your nightly skincare routine. There are no office visits required after your initial consultation and prescription.

Gradual, Natural Appearance

Results develop progressively over weeks, so the change looks natural rather than sudden. Friends notice your lashes, not a procedure.

Ideal Candidates

Is LATISSE® right for you?

LATISSE may be right for you if you feel your eyelashes are inadequate — too short, too thin, or too light. Many patients seek LATISSE because they are tired of relying on extensions, falsies, or heavy mascara to achieve the lash fullness they want. Others have experienced lash thinning due to aging, medical treatments, or conditions such as alopecia.

Good candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are in good general health and do not have active eye infections, known allergies to bimatoprost, or certain pre-existing eye conditions such as uveitis. If you have a history of elevated intraocular pressure or glaucoma, your clinician will discuss whether LATISSE is appropriate given your specific situation.

During your consultation at Bair Medical Spa in Albuquerque, your clinician will assess your lash health, review your medical and ocular history, and determine whether LATISSE is the best option for achieving your desired look. If LATISSE is not a fit, your clinician can recommend alternative lash enhancement options.

What to Expect

The LATISSE® treatment process

01

Consultation & Prescription

Your Bair Medical Spa clinician evaluates your lash health, reviews your medical history, and confirms LATISSE is appropriate for you. Because LATISSE is a prescription medication, this brief consultation is required before it can be dispensed.

02

Nightly Application Begins

Each evening after cleansing your face and removing makeup, place one drop of LATISSE on a sterile, single-use applicator. Draw the applicator along the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes. Use a fresh applicator for each eye. Do not apply to the lower lash line.

03

Early Growth Phase (Weeks 4–8)

Most patients notice the first signs of change around week four, when lashes begin to appear slightly longer. By week eight, increased fullness and darkness become more apparent. Consistent nightly application is essential during this phase.

04

Full Results (Week 16)

At approximately sixteen weeks, LATISSE delivers its full effect: lashes that are measurably longer, demonstrably fuller, and visibly darker. To maintain results, continue nightly application as prescribed by your clinician.

Safety & Side Effects

What to know about side effects

LATISSE is well tolerated by most patients. The most commonly reported side effects in clinical trials were mild itching or redness of the eyes, which typically resolved on their own without discontinuation. Darkening of the eyelid skin along the lash line can occur but is reversible upon stopping the medication.

In a small percentage of patients, LATISSE may cause increased brown pigmentation of the iris (the colored part of the eye). This change is more likely in patients with mixed-color irises (for example, blue-brown or green-brown) and may be permanent in some cases. Your clinician will discuss this risk in detail during your consultation so you can make an informed decision.

To minimize the risk of unwanted hair growth or skin darkening, it is important to apply LATISSE only to the upper lash line as directed and to blot any excess solution with a tissue. Do not apply to the lower lid. If you experience persistent irritation, unusual eye discomfort, or any change in vision, contact Bair Medical Spa or your eye care provider promptly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is LATISSE® safe?
Yes. LATISSE® is the only FDA-approved prescription treatment for hypotrichosis, or inadequate eyelashes. It was approved in 2008 after rigorous clinical trials demonstrating both safety and efficacy. The most common side effects are mild itching or redness at the application site. In rare cases, LATISSE may cause darkening of the eyelid skin or iris color, both of which are typically reversible once use is discontinued. Your Bair Medical Spa clinician will review your medical history and any potential contraindications during your consultation.
How long do I need to use LATISSE®?
LATISSE® is designed for ongoing use. You will begin to see noticeable improvement in lash length and fullness around week eight, with full results at approximately sixteen weeks. To maintain your results, continued nightly application is recommended. If you stop using LATISSE, your lashes will gradually return to their original appearance over a period of weeks to months.
How much does LATISSE® cost?
The cost of LATISSE® varies depending on the supply you purchase. During your consultation at Bair Medical Spa, your clinician will discuss pricing, available package options, and any current promotions. Because LATISSE is a prescription product, a brief evaluation is required before it can be dispensed.
How do I apply LATISSE® correctly?
Each evening, after removing makeup and cleansing your face, place one drop of LATISSE® on the sterile applicator provided. Draw the applicator carefully along the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes. Do not apply to the lower lid. Use a fresh applicator for each eye. Blot any excess solution beyond the upper lash line with a tissue. Consistent nightly application is key to achieving optimal results.
What happens if I stop using LATISSE®?
If you discontinue LATISSE®, your eyelashes will gradually return to their pre-treatment appearance over several weeks to months. The active ingredient bimatoprost works by extending the growth phase of the lash cycle, so once it is no longer applied, lashes revert to their natural growth pattern. Many patients choose to continue use indefinitely to maintain their fuller, darker lashes.
Can I use LATISSE® with contact lenses?
Yes, but you should remove your contact lenses before applying LATISSE® each evening. You may reinsert them the following morning. The preservative in LATISSE, benzalkonium chloride, can be absorbed by soft contact lenses. Applying the solution at night before bed makes this easy to manage for most contact lens wearers.
